For those of you not in Boston/Cambridge and worrying about transportation issues, you will want to check out Zipcar. Zipcar is a short-term (by the hour) rental car company that allows you to arrange online or by phone to pick up a car somewhere in your neighborhood where they have a reserved spot. You can just grab it and go, and then drop it off wherever you are going at the appointed zipcar space.
If you are staying at a hotel in town (somewhere on the red-line of the subway is best) and don't want to have to worry about paying for parking all the time (which can add $20 or more to the cost of the room per night), this is a good solution!

Registries
People are asking about where we are registered.
You don't have to give us a gift; we have been known to not give gifts when gifts were due. Please don't get us a gift if you are traveling from far away to see us! If you do want to give us a gift to help us entertain you better when you come visit us in the future, and it's not on the registry, please give it to us anyway! I just added a few things to the registry in case people really did want to give us a gift, but really didn't know what we would want.
We are registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and The Pampered Chef for odds and ends, and Macy's for our china set.
Also, since we already have a lot of stuff, you can donate to charity for us or something. We are sure that you'll pick a worthy cause.

places to stay
We have been looking for places for you to stay! Unfortunately, it's going to be hard to find a place for cheap in the Boston area during that weekend. It's Columbus Day Weekend, and I guess there's a lot of traveling and leaf-viewing activity happening during that weekend.
I have found a few places of interest. Most of the wedding party will be staying at the Marlowe Hotel. It's a little fancier and has lots of good places to take pictures inside. If you are able to, you should take advantage of their 5:00 manager's happy hour. Free wine from 5-6pm every day! I'm pretty sure you have to be staying there in order to take advantage of the deal, but who knows... Rooms there look like they are running about $270 a night, with a AAA discount. It's by the galleria mall, so if you want to be sure that you are close to a cheesecake factory or other chain, it's the place for you. You can check out bikes and kayaks from them, which might solve any transportation problems you might have. Also, it's pet friendly for those friends of pets that will be bringing their pet. It is closest to the green line, but is about a $7 cab ride from anywhere in Cambridge you want to go.
There is also the Kendall Hotel. We are reserving a block there. It's less expensive at $239 a night. This hotel is a little more in the Cambridge-y part of Cambridge, on the red line. Both MIT and One Kendall Square (where Andrew spent many formative years) are close. Their information is below. You have to reserve by September 15 to get this rate. Regardless, you should start looking because things are filling up! You will need to call at 617-577-1300 or 1-866-566-1300 and ask for the Collins/Sudbury Wedding Block in order to receive this rate
If you are more adventurous/broke and don't mind traveling a bit to get to the chapel and reception hall, we found The Bed and Breakfast Afloat. They have rooms on houseboats starting at $165. They are not really pet or kid-friendly for obvious reasons, but you get a location that is close to other sights in Boston if you plan to sight-see at all.
All of these places would be fine, but if you aren't staying with someone in town, book soon, as availability is disappearing!
Yay! We can't wait to see everyone!

Where, when; you know why
Andrew and Lindsey are getting married at the MIT Chapel on Saturday, October 11, 2008. In addition to being very small, the chapel is non-denominational and was designed by the architect Eero Saarinen in 1955. You will feel like you are in a swedish space ship circa the 1960's. Those were links with lots of pictures, but here is a map. The chapel is accessible by the Kendall Square T stop on the red line of the MBTA.
After that, we will be heading to the reception. We didn't have many options for receptions since we planned this pretty quickly, so even though we would have loved to invite more people to the reception, we are going with the Adolphus Busch Hall. It's kind of crazy, but very fun and also has an outside courtyard that we can use. I hope it's not too cold. It's at 29 Kirkland in Harvard Square, across the street from the Sanders Theater. It is accessible by the Harvard Square T stop on the red line of the MBTA.
